CPD Update: Motorcycle & Car Collision

The Columbia Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding a motorcycle and a car collision last night.

The incident at the 3600 block of Broad River Road involved four people; Two passengers on a 1982 Yamaha and two in a 2001 Toyota Camry.

It’s believed that the motorcycle driver was traveling eastbound on Broad River Road while the car was attempting to turn left into a shopping center parking lot.

Preliminary information indicates that the driver of the Toyota failed to yield to the motorcycle, causing the two Yamaha passengers to be ejected. Their serious injuries consist of broken bones, abrasions and head trauma. The victims continue to receive medical attention at a local hospital.

The two passengers inside the Toyota were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Officers are working to identify the contributing factors in the collision, including whether or not the motorcycle had an operating headlight.

Citizens with information are encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
