CPDUpdate: Fatal Motorcycle & Car Collision

A female passenger who was involved in a motorcycle and car collision earlier this week has passed away as a result of her injuries.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says Courtney A. Knight (DOB: 6-21-99) died from serious head trauma after the collision which occurred on July 12, 2017 at the 3600 block of Broad River Road.

The incident involved four people; Two passengers on a 1982 Yamaha and two in a 2001 Toyota Camry.

It’s believed that the motorcycle driver was traveling eastbound on Broad River Road while the car was attempting to turn left into a shopping center parking lot.

Preliminary information indicates that the driver of the Toyota failed to yield to the motorcycle, causing the two Yamaha passengers to be ejected. Their serious injuries consisted of broken bones, abrasions and head trauma. The motorcycle driver is recovering at a local hospital.

The two passengers inside the Toyota were taken to the hospital as a precaution. The driver has been cited for failing to yield the right of way.
