Columbia Police officers have arrested a 35-year-old woman in connection with a DUI and hit and run investigation. As a result, the victim’s car caught on fire and CPD officers pulled a passenger to safety.

Stefanie Lynn Seufert (DOB: 2-1-1982) is at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC)charged with DUI, Driving Under Suspension (DUS) – Second Degree, Hit and Run, Failure to Stop for Blue Lights, and Failure to Give Information/Render Aid.

On August 13, 2017, shortly before 2:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Huger and Hampton Streets regarding a reported hit and run incident involving two vehicles, an Acura and Toyota Camry. Seufert is accused of hitting the Acura and leaving the scene.

When officers arrived, they found the victim’s vehicle on fire with two passengers inside. CPD officers and members of the SC Highway Patrol managed to pull one passenger out of the burning car.  A CPD officer assisted with extinguishing the flames. The second passenger was safely out of the vehicle when CPD officers arrived. Both victims were taken to a local hospital for internal injuries and broken bones.

Columbia Fire crews were also called to the scene to extinguish the fire.

A CPD officer initiated a traffic stop on Seufert after the crash, but she’s accused of not stopping for police.  Seufert ended up crashing into a power pole at the 800 block of Meeting Street.  After being checked out by EMS, Seufert was arrested and taken to the ASGDC.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol also assisted CPD with the investigation.
