Columbia Police Investigators have arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with a series of home burglaries in the Lake Katherine area.

William Curtis Young (DOB: 7-24-1977) is housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) charged with Seven Counts of Burglary-First, Five Counts of Receiving Stolen Goods, and Grand Larceny.

Young was captured yesterday near the Old Woodlands area by CPD Officers and Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputies. Young was initially spotted in the area, and after a brief foot chase, Young ran right into the CPD investigator who’s assigned to the case. Young was immediately taken into custody and brought to CPD Headquarters for questioning.

Young is accused of breaking into several homes including on Kathwood Drive, Woodlake Drive, Quail Lane and Chimney Hill Road in mid-August to early September 2017.  Once inside, he allegedly stole more than $149,000 worth of miscellaneous jewelry and silver flatware.

A majority of the stolen items have been recovered. Investigators tracked most of the items to a local jewelry store where Young allegedly sold the items.

Young is also wanted in connection with similar crimes in the RCSD jurisdiction. CPD and RCSD are collaborating on the investigations.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
