By November 21, 2017September 21st, 2020Press Releases

Bond has been set at $75,000 for the man accused of causing a deadly moped collision last week.

Charles Davenport, Junior, (DOB: 8-30-1993) appeared before a judge in bond court this morning at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC). Davenport was also ordered to undergo monthly alcohol and drug testing, and must wear a GPS device.

Davenport charged with Felony DUI Involving Death in connection with a collision that occurred on November 15, 2017 at the 1800 block of Rosewood Drive.

Davenport was released from a local hospital yesterday after receiving injuries during the collision.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has previously identified the victim as David Newell (DOB: 9-21-1995), and determined that Newell died on November 16, 2017, due to complications from injuries received in the collision.

The initial CPD Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) investigation indicates that suspect Davenport was under the influence of alcohol and was speeding when he hit Newell’s moped from behind.  The impact caused the two vehicles to strike a tree.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
