Crimestoppers | Assault Investigation

By December 5, 2017Press Releases

Investigators with the Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) continue to work with the University of South Carolina’s (USC) Division of Law Enforcement and Safety regarding claims that a male physically assaulted a female while offering her a ride home.

On November 26, 2017, two females, ages 21 and 18 reported to CPD that they hitched a ride from an unknown male.  One female described feeling uncomfortable during the trip and getting out of the car.

In an attempt to help her friend follow suit, the male suspect allegedly pushed and pulled the first victim, while trying to prevent the other female from leaving.

After a brief struggle the male drove away from the scene. The injured victim went to a local hospital to receive medical treatment for scrapes and bruises to her leg.

An SVU investigator continues to gather information regarding the case, including positively identifying the suspect.
