Male Suspect Charged after Police Pursuit

Columbia Police Department (CPD) has charged a 21-year-old man after a brief police pursuit in North Columbia.

Nicholas Antonio Hayes (DOB: 7-9-1996) is currently housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) charged with Failure to Stop for Blue Lights.

Hayes is accused of intentionally eluding a CPD officer who attempted to conduct a traffic stop yesterday (December 12) at the 4500 block of Farrow Road.

Initially, the officer had information that the vehicle Hayes was driving was reported stolen out of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s jurisdiction.

When Hayes failed the stop for CPD, he’s accused of hitting other vehicles in the process, and then  crashing the vehicle near Clement Road.

Deputies with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) and Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) are also investigating the incidents.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
