Update | Arrest Made in Deadly Stabbing

By December 15, 2017Press Releases

Columbia Police Department investigators have arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with a deadly stabbing incident that occurred in the Harbison area this morning.

Matthew Scott Young (DOB: 1-27-1974) is charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime. He’s currently housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

Young is accused of stabbing a 28-year-old male in the upper body during an argument outside of 4 Heritage Village Lane off of Broad River Road.  The victim, who was found outside by officers, was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators have determined that the motive for the isolated incident is a conflict between the suspect and victim, who did not previously know each other. It’s believed the suspect became angry with the victim, then stabbed him.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting CPD with the investigation.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
