By January 26, 2018Press Releases

Columbia Police Department (CPD) officers have arrested a 16-year-old validated gang member accused of  possessing a gun and drugs at a local apartment complex.

The suspect was located at 1810 Allen Benedict Court on January 24, 2018. Officers were dispatched there after receiving citizen complaints about young males, possibly with weapons,  loitering outside.

Upon further investigation, officers saw the suspect throw a gun on the ground while running away from CPD. The weapon was seized as evidence.

When the teen was arrested, officers also found green-plant like material and several pills in his possession, which field-tested positive for marijuana and ecstasy.

As a result, the teen was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) charged with Possession of a Firearm by Person Under the Age of 21, Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, and Two Counts of Drug Possession.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
