By February 12, 2018Press Releases

Investigators with the Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Property Crimes Unit have made a second arrest in connection with a pit bull theft from the City of Columbia’s Animal Shelter.

Darius N. White is charged with Burglary – Second Degree and Larceny. A judge set this bond at $50,000.

White and co-defendant 19-year-old Raqwan Thompson (previously arrested) are accused of breaking into the animal shelter located at 127 Humane Lane last month and stealing two dogs.

One of the canines escaped and was located the next day by animal control personnel.

The female pit bull that was stolen was found last week, unharmed and wandering in Cayce.  Since that time, she has been returned to the City of Columbia Animal Shelter and is said to be doing well.

White is currently housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
