Update | Teen Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested

Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators have arrested the teenager who was wanted in connection with a morning shooting that injured a 55-year-old woman.

16-year-old Jaleel Brown was located by CPD officers, Forest Acres Police and members of the United States Marshal Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force shortly before 4:00 p.m. at Ravenwood Hill Apartments located on Bethel Church Road.

Brown will be charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.  The suspect is also expected to be tried as an adult, per South Carolina law.

Recap of the Alleged Crime:

Shortly before 10:00 a.m., Brown is accused of shooting the victim multiple times outside of a residence at the 600 block of Easter Street.

When the initial responding officer arrived on the scene, he immediately rendered aid by placing a tourniquet from his department-issued medical kit on one of the victim’s injuries.

EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where at last check she was in stable condition, per medical staff.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
