Overnight ‘Shots Fired’ Call Leads to Arrests

The Columbia Police Department’s North Region and K-9 officers arrested two men after an overnight ‘shots fired’ call at a local apartment complex.

Marcus Bess (27-years-old) is charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, and Joshua McGraw (23-years-old) is charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of a Violent Felony.

CPD officers responded to Bailey Street shortly before 1:00 a.m. (May 25). While arriving on scene, one officer heard gunfire. Multiple officers were on scene to assist and saw two males running in between apartment buildings, shortly the shooting incident.

After investigating, officers determined that the males ran into an apartment. As officers secured the immediate area and knocked on the door, the men were lawfully searched. As a result, officers found two firearms on the men and seized the weapons. Investigators are working to review surveillance video to determine if the same men were responsible for the shooting incident. There were no reported injuries or property damage as a result.

Both men were taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
