Arrests Made in Carjacking Investigation

Columbia Police Department (CPD) Investigators have arrested two males in connection with an early morning carjacking incident.

Desmond Denzell Allen (21-years-old) is charged with Carjacking, Criminal Conspiracy, and Assault and Battery – First Degree.

Calvin Zeke Swanson (18-year-old) is charged with Criminal Conspiracy and Accessory After the Fact of a Felony.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., (May 29) Allen is accused of approaching the 33-year-old male victim’s vehicle at the 1300 block of Taylor Street and asking for money.

As the victim attempted to comply, Allen allegedly pointed a gun at the man and demanded that he abandon the vehicle. During the carjacking incident, Allen is also accused of threatening the victim with a knife.

After taking the car,  Allen is further accused of picking up co-defendant Swanson who’s accused of having prior knowledge of the planned crime.

Shortly after the crime, Richland County deputies located the two suspects, the stolen vehicle, and several items belonging to the victim at the 200 block of Springtree Drive.

The men were taken to CPD Headquarters for questioning before being booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
