Man Accused of Multiple Vehicle Crimes Arrested

The man accused of committing a series of car break-ins in the City of Columbia and other law enforcement jurisdictions was located and arrested over the weekend by the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP).

In addition to the sixteen (16) previous arrest warrants from the Columbia Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit, 45-year-old Michael Jerome Brosia will be served with two arrest warrants for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Malicious Injury to Property.

The newest warrants stem from two incidents that occurred on May 29, 2018 at 506 Huger Street (Park Place Apartments) at approximately 2:00 a.m.

Brosia allegedly drove to that location in a stolen 1998 Toyota Camry and then damaged the parking garage entry gate to gain access to the apartment complex. The stolen vehicle was recovered on June 4, 2018.

The previous CPD arrest warrants will charge Brosia with several counts of:

Breaking into a Motor Vehicle, Larceny, and Financial Identity Fraud.  Additional warrants are pending.

Initially, Brosia was accused of breaking into various unlocked vehicles at Stadium Village Lofts located at 1049 Key Road in March 2018, and while at 124 Culliver Road on April 7, 2018.

Once inside, Brosia allegedly stole miscellaneous items to include money, credit/debit cards, handbags, wallets, headphones and sunglasses.

He’s further accused of using the credit/debit cards to make fraudulent purchases at gas stations and other businesses.

Brosia is scheduled to appear in a bond hearing at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. (ASGDC)

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
