Investigators with the Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Property Crimes Unit are releasing  surveillance pictures of a male suspect accused of swindling a bank teller out of money.

CPD is working to identify the man and determine his whereabouts after an incident on September 4, 2018 at 1213 Lady Street (First Community Bank).

The suspect allegedly asked the clerk to convert thousands of dollars in cash ($20 bills) into larger denominations ($100 bills).

Once the exchange was made and the suspect was in possession of the larger bills, he is accused of stealing money out of view of the clerk, and then asking her to exchange the money back to the original smaller bills.

The clerk did not recount the money to determine if she received the full amount from the suspect. The clerk realized the error and crime by deception after the man left the bank.

The suspect is described as possibly having a Middle Eastern accent.
