DNA Match Results in Additional Charge for Criminal Sexual Conduct Suspect

Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators with the Special Victims Unit (SVU) have placed an additional charge on a sexual assault suspect after DNA evidence linked him to a second assault investigation.

As a result, Darius Martez Nelson (DOB: 11-1990) remains at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASDC) after a judge

denied bond for being charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct – Third Degree.

This charge stems from an alleged incident that occurred on June 3, 2017 at the 2100 block of Greene Street.

 

 

The female victim in her early 20’s, reports that suspect Nelson took her in an alleyway and sexually assaulted her. A DNA sample taken after the alleged assault was submitted into the national database known as CODIS, or Combined DNA Index System.

Prior to this charge, Nelson was arrested in November 2017 and charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct – First DegreeKidnapping, and Assault –First Degree

Last year, Nelson was accused of forcing another female victim to a secluded area at the 700 block of Saluda Avenue November 8, 2017 and sexually assaulting her.

During the crime, the victim also suffered significant facial injuries after the suspect hit her several times.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
