By October 12, 2018Press Releases

The Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) is investigating a serious collision involving a two cars and 18-wheeler last night.

The incident happened at approximately 9:00 p.m. (October 11) at the 7200 block of Garners Ferry Road.

At least three people were transported to a local hospital and per medical staff, their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The preliminary information by TSU indicates that a silver 2007 Nissan Sentra was traveling east in Garners Ferry Road, while the driver of a blue 2000 Ford Escort (pictured) was traveling west on the same roadway.

The driver of the Escort is accused of failing to yield to the Sentra causing the two vehicles to collide.

The impact caused the Escort to spin 180 degrees, lose control and travel back across all westbound lanes of traffic, and collide with a 2013 Volvo tractor trailer carrying approximately 42,000 pounds of non-hazmat aluminum.

The driver of the Ford Escort was given a citation for Failure to Yield Left Turns.
