As families celebrate the approach of 2021, Police Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook asks that you put safety at the top of your priority list.
- Don’t drink and drive
- Find a sober, designated driver
- Call 9-1-1 if you suspect drunk driving, suspicious activity or for another emergency
- Do NOT shoot celebratory gunfire
- Stay vigilant

Suffice it to say, Columbia Police officers will be patrolling the entire City.
Also as a reminder, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) recommends that you avoid large gatherings on New Year’s Eve and Day. Instead, celebrate the new year at home and limit the people around you to those in your household. Another option? Celebrate virtually with friends and family. Continue to wear a face covering and socially distance yourself from others. Wash yours hands frequently.
