Update: Man Charged in Construction Scam Investigation

Columbia Police Department (CPD) Investigators have charged a 44-year-old man after allegedly scamming hundreds of thousands of dollars from a victim in a phony construction deal.

Today, Damon D. McDuffie turned himself in to CPD officers for Obtaining Property under False Pretenses

McDuffie is accused of signing a contract under “Heritage Construction Inspection and Mitigation Services,” with the male victim for a home construction project worth more than $300,000. The suspect is accused of cashing the payment checks and not delivering on the agreed upon services.

At last check, McDuffie remained housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
