Update: Fatal Collision Involving a Pedestrian on SC 277

The male pedestrian involved in last night’s collision on SC 277 has died as a result of his injuries.

The Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) was dispatched to SC 277 between Farrow Road and Bull Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. March 7, 2021.

The investigation has determined that the pedestrian was unlawfully walking in the middle of the southbound lane on SC 277 when three cars struck him causing fatal injuries. The pedestrian was also wearing dark-colored clothing at the time of the incident.

The first two drivers saw the man and swerved to avoid hitting him. The third car did not immediately see the pedestrian until after contact was made. One driver rendered aid to the man before EMS arrived on scene.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting CPD with the investigation.
