Update: Cardamon Court Shooting Investigation

The Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigation regarding last week’s fatal shooting on Cardamon Court continues.  As part of the case, investigators remain in consultation with the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

At this time, based on multiple interviews conducted and other valuable information gathered, the shooting appears to be an isolated incident between a small group of male acquaintances with no immediate threat to the public.

After receiving a ShotSpotter alert shortly before 8:30 p.m. on June 25, 2021, CPD officers responded to the 100 block of Cardamon Court. When officers arrived, they found a male with visible injuries lying outside of a residence. Bystanders and CPD officers were administering medical aid before EMS arrived to take the man to a local hospital.

A short time later, the man, identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office as 22-year-old Jhontariouse L. Brisbon was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. Another man was injured during the shooting, however his wounds are not life-threatening. A relative drove him to the hospital after the shooting.

CPD will provide updates regarding the shooting incident as additional information becomes available.
