Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested

Columbia Police Department (CPD) officers have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with an isolated shooting incident that happened earlier this month.

Diamante Watts was located this morning on Marshal Street in North Columbia by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force which includes CPD. (additional charges are pending regarding the apprehension process).

Watts is housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) charged with Attempted Murder, Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

Watts is accused of shooting the male victim in the upper body while at the Colony Apartments (6400 block of Bailey Street) on November 1, 2021. After the shooting, Watts is accused of stealing money from the victim’s pockets before leaving the scene.

During the course of the investigation, officers determined that the victim and suspect are acquaintances.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
