(June 28, 2022) ** Update ** The male pedestrian related to the below Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) investigation has passed away as a result of his injuries.
The Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) is investigating a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Devine and Heidt Street shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2022.
Preliminary information reveals that the female driver of a compact car was traveling eastbound on Devine Street and reportedly did not see the male pedestrian while he attempted to cross the northbound side of the roadway.
There is no evidence that the male pedestrian was wearing reflective or light-colored clothing.
The driver stopped after the impact and called 9-1-1 to report the incident. The pedestrian remains hospitalized and at last check was in critical condition.
