Here’s an update on yesterday’s shooting outside of the Walmart store on Garners Ferry Road.
Suspect Drevonte Javis Nelson turned himself in to Columbia Police officers overnight and is charged with Attempted Murder & Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime. He is currently housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Nelson is accused of shooting the male victim in the lower body after an argument during a child custody exchange at 7520 Garners Ferry Road.
The child was not physically injured during the incident. It is believed that the two men are familiar with each other.
Per medical staff, the victim in the case did not recieve a life-threatening injury.
All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
