14-Year-Old Male Charged in Shooting Incident at Harbison Area Amusement Park

Columbia Police Chief W.H. ‘Skip’ Holbrook announces the arrest of a juvenile accused of shooting a female during an isolated incident inside a Harbison area business earlier this month.

Investigators with the Violent Crimes against Persons Unit have charged a 14-year-old male with Attempted Murder, Possession of a Firearm by Person under the Age of 18, Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime, and Breach of Peace of a High and Aggravated Nature.

The teen who was found by CPD officers and additional members of the United States Marshals Service’s (USMS) Carolinas Regional Task Force was initially housed at the juvenile section of the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

Case Recap:

On March 13, 2023, CPD officers responded to 140 Parkridge Drive (Frankie’s Fun Park) for a reported shooting inside the business and subsequently found the victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Since the shooting, the victim has been treated and released from a local hospital.

Officers also spoke with several witnesses on the scene who provided valuable information regarding a fight between at least two groups moments before the shooting.  While the shooting occurred, patrons including several children ran for cover. Thankfully, no one else was injured.

While CPD investigators continue to determine a motive for the shooting, they believe the victim and suspect are familiar with each other. Additionally, investigators were able to review surveillance video of the shooting and collect ballistic evidence to aid the investigation.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
