Man Accused of Receiving Stolen Medical Equipment

A second male suspect has been charged in connection with an investigation into the theft of medical equipment from a Columbia hospital.

Columbia Police Chief W.H. ‘Skip’ Holbrook announces that 54-year-old Yong Li Dong is charged with Receiving Stolen Goods ($10,000 or more). He is currently out of jail after a judge set a $5,000 bond.

At the end of March, investigators with the Columbia Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at Dong’s Indigo Springs Drive home along with Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD). CPD investigators found miscellaneous medical items at the home including gloves and uniforms with an approximate value of more than $70,000.

Additionally, CPD investigators executed a search warrant at a Standish Street home and recovered more miscellaneous medical supplies with an approximate value of nearly $5,000.

Previous Investigation Connection:

Both search warrants were in connection to the March arrest of 36-year-old Gregory L. Gill, a former Prisma Health employee.

Gill was charged with Two Counts of Grand Larceny ($10,000 or more) after being accused of stealing an electrocardiogram (EKG) machine worth an estimated $25,000 from 1330 Taylor Street (Prisma Health Baptist) and two ‘Welch Allyn’ machines worth between $30-50,000 along with a medical mobile computer worth $8,000.

All of the medical items stolen from CPD’s jurisdiction in both investigations have been recovered and returned to Prisma Health Baptist.

All persons charged/arrested are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
