Man Charged in Burglary Investigations

Columbia Police Department (CPD)’s Property Crimes Unit (PCU) investigators have arrested a 33-year-old convicted male burglar in connection with a convenience store burglary.

According to Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook, 33-year-old Dantwan Wilson is charged with First Degree Burglary and Petit Larceny. He is currently housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC). At the request of Wilson’s attorney, a bond reduction hearing was granted for the suspect today. A PCU investigator who attended the hearing requested a bond revocation. A judge set a $100,000 surety bond for Wilson with the following stipulations:

· Under house arrest. Wilson can only leave his residence for medical and other appointments, work obligations, worship or to attend court.

· Must wear a GPS ankle monitor

Any violations of the conditions will result in bond revocation.

Chief Holbrook adds, “There must be a standard punishment that applies in all crime categories especially when the suspect is a prolific reoffender preying on citizens, and has exhibited being a risk and danger to various communities.”

The current charges stem from Wilson’s arrest on March 21, 2023, after surveillance video linked the suspect to the theft of multiple cartons of cigarettes from the Cheapway Gas Station located at 2559 Millwood Avenue. At that time, a judge denied Wilson’s bond.

Previous Investigation & Charges:

On March 10, 2023, CPD Investigators recovered property that was reported as stolen from several home burglaries inside Wilson’s home. CPD investigators executed a search warrant and found shoes, a passport, class ring, a gaming system, dozens of cigarettes cartons and cigars, as well as two handguns. The burglaries occurred in multiple neighborhoods including: Rosewood, Shandon, Melrose Heights, and Heathwood.

In that case, CPD investigators charged Wilson with Receiving Stolen Goods, Possession of a Stolen Handgun, and Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon. Federal adoption of the case may be forthcoming due to Wilson’s two previous Second Degree Burglary convictions.

On March 19, 2023, Wilson turned himself in to CPD officers and was taken to the ASGDC and released the next day on a $50K surety bond.

The PCU is also investigating whether more than 40 home burglaries in the City of Columbia dating back to October 1, 2022, are linked to Wilson.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
