Arrest Made in Waverly Street Fatal Shooting Investigation

Columbia Police Department (CPD) Investigators have arrested a 45-year-old male in connection with a fatal shooting that happened on Waverly Street last weekend.

According to Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook, Johnny Fletcher, Junior was arrested by CPD officers and members of the United States Marshal Service’s Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force. Fletcher is housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime and Attempted Armed Robbery.

He’s accused of fatally shooting the victim identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office as Nicholas Bonepart.

The incident happened during an attempted robbery during a narcotics transaction on August 5, 2023, at the 2100 block of Waverly Street.

Initially, CPD officers responded to the location after receiving a Shotspotter alert. Bonepart was found inside a vehicle with no signs of life.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
