Columbia Police Department (CPD) investigators have arrested a male teenager in connection with an isolated fatal shooting of a 57-year-old male last month.

Police Chief W. H. ‘Skip’ Holbrook announces that CPD officers arrested 19-year-old Jared Sammir Villanueva Ramos yesterday and charged him with Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime. Ramos is housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

Ramos is accused of shooting the male victim during an argument at a home in the 1500 block of Washington Street on January 31, 2024. The victim who’s been identified as Carlos Manuel Estrada was pronounced deceased at a hospital on February 6, 2024.

While investigating, CPD officers discovered that Ramos came to South Carolina last year after illegally entering the United States from Honduras. The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations Unit (HSI) is assisting CPD with the investigation.
