Arrest Made in Deadly Shooting Investigation

Columbia Police Department investigators have charged a man with murder after an overnight shooting outside of a local fast food restaurant.

Eric Jahann Nixon (DOB: 12-18-1981) is charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime, Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, and Unlawful Possession of a Pistol.

Nixon is accused of shooting and killing the male victim after an argument at 2:30 a.m. in the parking lot of 205 Stoneridge Drive.

According to witnesses, Nixon was arguing with another person and when the victim tried to intervene, he was shot. The victim was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased by medical staff.

Nixon was located and arrested a short time later at a Jacob Road home with the assistance of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Nixon is currently housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
