Update | Fatal ATV Collision

The Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) continues to investigate this weekend’s fatal ATV collision on Vann Street.

Based upon an initial investigation and subsequent information gathered, it appears that the victim, identified by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts as 44-year-old Dawn Cornelius Muller was traveling at a high rate of speed with a motorcycle moments before the collision occurred.

Muller was traveling northbound on Katy Street while operating an ATV when he lost control, proceeded over Vann Street and struck a house shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2017.

The residents at the home rendered aid to the victim until CPD officers and EMS arrived on scene.

According to Coroner Watts, Muller died at the scene from blunt force trauma to the head and chest.

CPD officers have located the motorcycle driver and questioned him to gather additional information regarding the circumstances of the incident.

Both vehicles involved in the collision have been seized as evidence as part of the on-going investigation.
