Today marks the nine-year anniversary of a hit and run incident that seriously injured a cardiac nurse who worked at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital (now Prisma Health).
In a valuable partnership with the Columbia Police Department and Midlands Crimestoppers, Lamar Advertising has donated billboards around the City of Columbia to generate tips to help solve the crime. The billboards are located on Devine Street at Gills Creek Parkway, Farrow Road at Hardscrabble Road and Huger Street. Tipsters could be eligible for a financial reward. Also, a separate $25,000 reward continues to be offered if a tip leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect (s).
Incident Recap:
On September 16, 2012, 24-year-old Lindsay Bires was standing on the sidewalk at Medical Park Drive during a work break from Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.
According to witnesses, a white compact car ran off the side of the road twice before making impact with Bires causing life-threatening injuries. The driver did not stop or render aid. After the incident, those same witnesses helped Bires, and were able to get medical personnel on site immediately.
It is important for citizens to recall someone who may have driven a white, compact car during the time of the incident or had vehicle repairs done soon after the incident.
Lindsay continues to struggle physically, emotionally and mentally regarding the incident. While she has strong support from friends and family in Boston, Massachusetts, Lindsay has a new addition to her healing regimen; a Golden doodle therapy dog named Brady (for former New England Patriot Quarterback, Tom Brady).
